Speaker – Kini Knudson – Director for the Street Transportation Department
Bio – Mr. Knudson is the director for the Street Transportation Department. He
previously served as Assistant Street Transportation Director and City Engineer. Prior to joining the Street Transportation Department, he served as deputy director in the Public Transit Department responsible for the Facilities Division. In his role with Public Transit, he was responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and maintaining the city’s transit maintenance and passenger facilities. Since joining the
city in 2000, he has worked in several city departments, including Development Services, Public Transit, Aviation, and Engineering and Architectural Services. He has spent the majority of his professional career managing vertical and horizontal construction projects and programs, and possesses significant contracting and procurement experience. Prior to his employment with the city of Phoenix, he was an Officer in the United States Navy Civil Engineer Corps. He spent time stationed in southern Spain and in the Washington D.C. area. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona, and a master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University.
Additional Attendee – Eric Froberg – City Engineer
Bio – Effective January 14th, Eric Froberg will be joining the City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department team as Phoenix’s new City Engineer. Eric brings nearly two decades of engineering and design experience on a variety of projects with an emphasis in public works infrastructure, residential, and commercial land development. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona and began his professional career with RBF Consulting. Following an 11-year tenure with RBF focused on site civil land development, Eric was hired as the New Mexico Operations Manager for T.Y.Lin International. As an Associate Vice President and Operations Manager for T.Y.Lin, Eric was responsible for building, mentoring, and leading the T.Y.Lin office with project pursuits, project delivery, QA/QC, and related business development and operational activities. Although his work was in the private sector, Eric was extremely involved with ACEC, an engineering industry group, and worked to develop strong professional relationships with neighboring municipalities. Eric is registered as a Professional Engineer in California, Arizona, and New Mexico; and in 2013, was recognized as a Top 20 Under 40 for ENR (Engineering News Record).
